Frequently Asked Questions

Formed in 1957, the Bedford Citizens Housing Association, or BHCA, works to provide high-quality housing for elderly people of limited means. For almost 70 years, we’ve worked tirelessly, acquiring new homes and expanding our existing care homes. Today, we’ve got a selection of properties that are perfect for older adults looking for a quiet, friendly environment.

Bedford Citizens’ Housing Association (BCHA) provides a variety of supportive housing options tailored for older adults. These include sheltered housing for those who desire a secure and community-oriented living space, residential care at Bedford Charter House for long-term support, and extra care housing, which offers independence along with on-site care services.

Safety and security are top priorities at BCHA’s sheltered housing. Each facility is designed with the well-being of older adults in mind, featuring secure access, emergency call systems, and staff available 24/7 to provide assistance and ensure residents feel safe and secure in their living environment.

Yes. BCHA is proud of the personalised services it offers to the individual needs of each resident of our Bedford care homes. Our services can be tailored to accommodate specific daily activities or more comprehensive requirements. Whatever you or your loved ones need to stay happy and healthy, we’re more than happy to provide.

Examples of personalised care include employing a personal assistant, payroll services (if you employ a carer), and much more.

BCHA’s extra care housing combines the independence of a private home with the security of on-site care services. Amenities include fully equipped apartments, communal areas for social activities, gardens, and personalised care services available around the clock. This setup allows residents to live independently while having the necessary support tailored to their personal care needs.

On the other hand, each resident at the Bedford Charter House gets a generously sized room (with en-suite), internet access, a large TV, and access to the Club House. It’s an incredible space filled with a cinema, style room, and even a hairdressing salon.

One of the best parts about staying in a Bedford care home is the company. We encourage residents to spend time together, whether that’s just having a chat, inviting someone round to their room, or heading to the Club House for a film. But there’s no substitute for friends and family.

We help residents stay connected with our video-calling services. This ensures that despite the physical distance, emotional connections continue to thrive. It’s the perfect way to keep in touch with relatives who don’t live nearby.
